The villages and towns around the northern section of the Cairngorms National Park support an array of way-marked walks, with the trails in and around Nethy Bridge some of the best looked after in the park.
There are lots of popular family walks to choose from, many following river paths such as the short river trail along the Dulnain to a bridge built by the legendary Gurkhas.
The most notable forest in the area is the Abernethy an ancient Caledonian pine treasure and now an RSPB reserve close to Loch Garten - which of course is the home to the renowned breeding pairs of osprey. The forest is also home to rare crossbill, black grouse and the almost extinct wild cat.
